What’s on: East Kent events still to come in September

September events in Sandwich, Deal, Dover and Thanet

Standfirst: Heritage Open Days run until 20 September, with markets, music, exhibitions and free community events continuing across East Kent to the end of the month.

There is still plenty happening across Sandwich, Deal, Dover and Thanet before September disappears.

Sandwich gets the last weekend of Heritage Open Days first. The programme runs until 20 September, with free walks, talks and access to buildings that are not normally open to the public. Then on 25 September, St Mary’s Arts Centre hosts The Orbison Project, a six-piece Roy Orbison tribute band, from 8pm. Tickets are listed at £20.

Deal has one of the more unusual free outings on 20 September, when Ripple Windmill opens from noon to 4pm. Entry is free, the tearoom and gardens are open and, wind permitting, the sails will be turning. On 27 September, the Beach Street Square programme continues with free live music from Playtime from 2pm.

Dover has several free options. A dusk wildlife walk around the Western Heights runs from 6pm to 8pm on 18 September; Market Square Live brings St Margaret’s Players to the town centre on 19 September; and the Grand Shaft opens for free self-guided visits on 20 September. The month finishes with Dover Repair Cafe at Biggin Hall on 30 September, where volunteer fixers will tackle items including electrical goods, clothes, china and bicycles.

Thanet has enough listings to fill a newspaper by itself. Among the simpler choices, Margate Old Town Market runs from 11am to 4pm on 19 September, with local makers, vintage clothing, vinyl, jewellery and food. Ramsgate’s Addington Street Vintage Trail follows on 26–27 September, from 11am to 5pm. For live music, The Lemonheads play Dreamland Margate on 28 September, doors 7pm; the listing says the standing show is 14+, with under-18s requiring an accompanying adult.

These are selected highlights, not a complete diary. Event times, ticket availability and outdoor arrangements can change, so check the organiser before travelling.
