There was yet another set of Deliberate Car Fires in Sandwich, one car and one works van both belonging to the same person. This person has been targeted before and, despite regular promises to do something about it, in the early hours of Thursday 22nd June 2023, residents were woken just after 12am to the sound of two fire engines hundreds of meters apart putting out these fires.
Unlike previous fires that targeted this person’s vehicles the arsonist set fire to a car close to a flat where windows were melted. It was luck that the flat was not set on fire and the vulnerable disabled resident hurt before they could vacate their home.
Last time the police response was to send out questionnaires, not police officers. If the targeted person does as they did last time, and buys another car, wherever they park is in danger of becoming a fire hazard. Come on, what would you do if they parked their car two meters from the front door of your home where you and you children live? This not hypothetical, this has been happening.
Local Sandwich Town Councillor, Clare Ungerson, tried to contact the police replacement for PCR Debbie Bishop – PC Matthew Hawkes who is based in Dover. He is in something called Dover Community Safety Unit. Clare tried to find his contact telephone number but failed. Attempts to contact the Sandwich Community Warden, Peter Gill, have so far failed.
